STORY SUMMARY

This book includes the short stories of The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogal and The Third Mind by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin. The goal of the project was to combine the two excerpts with a book design that tied the stories together. The purpose of The Overcoat portion of this book is to show the struggle of a low-income man in the social hierarchy of the society he is in and how these issues are still relevant today. The book includes a combination of 19th century inspired pictures collaged with type. The second story, The Third Mind, is a collection of literature that is cut up and rearranged into new tales, which the typography visuals in this book design are inspired by.

PHOTOGRAPHY

This book consists of cut up black and white photos with heavy type. Some images have missing heads or body parts to symbolize the feeling of isolation, something the main character of The Overcoat experiences throughout the entire story.
