Elevate Barbershop first opened their doors in December of 2017. It was the newest modern barbershop to join the block and it brought a new kind of barber culture to San Mateo. With the walls covered in black and an aesthetic you couldn't pass up on, Elevate welcomed clients into their one-of-a-kind barbershop for a fresh and a beer (only for those over the age of 21, of course). The business needed more than just a logo, it needed an identity—one that could be used to create a movement, an aesthetic, and a lifestyle.
The client wanted a logo that would represent this barber community as a whole. The barbershop's walls are covered in black with gold accents throughout. These colors would become the theme for the shop's branding.
We wanted to combine a wordmark with a pictorial mark for the logo. The wordmark would include a bold typface and the pictorial mark would include some sort of barber tool icon, such as scissors, razors, and trimmers.
The client wanted to include a shaver in the logo along with a bold font. I created 3 different design concepts that included a shaver but with different typefaces. The logo would need to look good on products, merchandise and signage on the front window of the barbershop.
The final logo features the second concept with expansion including a gold drop shadow and dividers that separate the main name from barbershop. When displayed on dark backgrounds, the logo colors will invert to a white text, but the gold drop shadow will remain.
Hats and shirts with the logo will be sold in store. The inverted white logo is displayed on all merchandise.
The logo will be displayed on the front window and the street sign in front of the barbershop. The window features a gold logo and the street sign features the classic black and gold logo.
